The purpose of the First Year Seminar is to provide foundational skills for academic success and social integration into the Utica College Community.

 Goals :

●        Students will articulate the differences between being a high school student and a college student in terms of classroom behavior and responsibility.

●        Students will assume the responsibilities expected of college students including academic and personal integrity.

●        Students will be exposed to a variety of academic disciplines and cultural experiences in order to appreciate the learning experience.

●        Students will be able to locate, access, and evaluate resources for academic, personal, and career decisions.

●        Students will demonstrate an understanding of course registration policies and procedures at Utica College.

Special Needs

Any student who has a need of special accommodations in this class due to a documented disability should speak with me as soon as possible, preferably within the first two weeks of class. You should also contact the Office of Learning Services (315-792-3202) in order to determine eligibility for services and to receive an accommodation letter. We will work with you to help you master the course content effectively and appropriately.

Intellectual Honesty

Students should maintain intellectual honesty at all times. We will be investigating this topic further this semester so that you have a better understanding. Students who engage in plagiarism or cheating may receive an "F for Cheating" for the course on their transcripts. Briefly, students must do their work on all quizes and assignments. Any quoted or paraphrased phrases or sentences from published material, Internet sources, or other individuals’ work must be correctly referenced.

All assignments are due by 8:00 am on the due date. If submitted after the start of class it will be considered late and receive a 5 point reduction on the assignment.  If more than 1 day late it will not be accepted, you will receive a 0 for the assignment.
